The Education Center for the Environment and Sustainability [initials in Greek: Κ.Ε.ΠΕ.Α. (K.E.PE.A)] of Eleftherio Kordelio is an educational institution founded in 1995 (until 2021 named “Center for Environmental Education”) by the Ministry of Education and Religion and the former Municipality of Eleftherio Kordelio (now part of the Municipality of Kordelio-Evosmos). It aims to promote environmental and sustainability education in schools. It organizes (a) educational programs for student groups, (b) training seminars for teachers, (c) information and awareness raising actions for schools & citizens and (d) creates and publishes educational material. K.E.PE.A is staffed by three primary and secondary education teachers. It is one of 58 corresponding Centers operating throughout the country (almost one in each regional unit). In the Regional Unit of Thessaloniki, it was the only one until 2022, when the operation of K.E.PE. A Thermi in Livadi began.
Since 2000, K.E.PE.A has been housed in a beautiful bioclimatic building, built with European funds specifically for this reason. It is located at the junction of A. Papandreou and Katsantoni (https://goo.gl/maps/983aoMVTZ3kp4nTT6) streets. It is the first public bioclimatic building in Thessaloniki, a jewel for the Municipality and a source of wider interest) (it participated in events such as Open House Thessaloniki). The courtyard, in front of the building, and the building itself are both used for the implementation of educational programs. At the same time, the courtyard is used by the citizens as a public green space.
