The municipality of Kordelio-Evosmos was founded on 2011. It is the union of the former municipalities of (a) Eleftherio-Kordelio and (b) Evosmos. It is located on the northwest side of the urban complex of the city of Thessaloniki, at a distance of 5 km from its center and with an area of approximately thirteen thousand (13,000) acres. Close to the limits of the Municipality is the western entrance of Thessaloniki. The main roads that pass through it are: Monastiriou Street, (internal) Peripheral Road and Egnatia Road.
The population of the Municipality of Kordelio-Evosmos, according to the last official census (2021) carried out by the Hellenic Statistical Authority, amounts to 105,352 inhabitants.
During the last decades, the municipality has seen a rapid residential development area (mostly in the areas of “Nea Politia”, “Ano Evosmos”, etc.). The low prices of buying, or renting, real estate, attracted many expatriate families from the former USSR, economic immigrants, and new couples and families from other areas of Thessaloniki and Northern Greece.
The most important problems the municipality of Kordelio-Evosmos is trying to solve are the lack of parking spaces and the pollution from the neighboring heavy industries. Its advantages include the thousands of young people - hence the low population aging index -, its location and its multicultural society.
Kordelio-Evosmos is a modern and dynamically developing municipality, with intense activity in all areas of social, cultural and economic life. Its actions concern: serving the citizen with the use of new technologies, protecting the environment, improving the existing infrastructure, building new infrastructure and upgrading residential areas through new projects for developing civic participation, creating new institutions and implementation of programs, and, finally, in caring for people through social policy, education, sports and culture.
